Public Health
As a philanthropy, we often work behind the scenes to make things possible. We bring people and organizations together to tackle complex health problems in strategic, innovative ways.
Reaching Out
You may be familiar with our public-health campaigns. Several years ago, we asked Kansans to “Take a Second, Make a Difference” and, overwhelmingly, people responded. Smiling at a child. Engaging in conversation. Exchanging names. Our first-ever campaign affected children, too. It encouraged smokers to “Take It Outside.” As a result, many children noticed a smoky haze lifting from their homes. The children may not have been old enough to show gratitude to the adults who chose not to smoke indoors, so we’ll say it. Thank you.
Guiding Leaders
We’ve sponsored the Kansas Leadership Conference since 1993. This event brings together hundreds of leaders from all parts of the state to share information, build inspiration and develop skills. You may know some of our Kansas Health Foundation Fellows who’ve received intensive leadership development experience. They’re engaged citizens living and working in your communities – in children’s health, public health and governmental and nonprofit agencies.
Helping Children
Our media campaign - “Turn a Page. Touch a Mind.” - and our most recent annual report and Internet microsite - “Build From Birth” - both serve to raise awareness of the importance of early brain development. You may have seen our public service announcements, featuring adults reading to children. Perhaps you’ve picked up a “Turn a page. Touch a mind.” brochure at your pediatrician’s office, or visited the “Build From Birth” informative-yet-fun
website
