Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a required font size for the project description and budget narrative?
A: Yes, please use the font and size the document is in when you download it.
Q: How do I get an application form for a Recognition Grant?
A: It can be downloaded from our website. Click
here
. The form then needs to be signed and submitted with attachments by conventional mail or delivered to our offices, located at 309 East Douglas in Wichita, KS 67202.
Q: What is the deadline for my application?
A: There are two funding cycles each year with deadlines of March 15 and September 15. Applications must be in our offices by 5 p.m.
Q: Can I submit my application earlier than the deadline?
A: Yes. You will receive a letter acknowledging your application when it is received.
Q: How do I know what organization name to use on my application?
A: Only non-profit (501(c)(3) organizations are eligible for a Recognition Grant. If you’re not a governmental entity, or covered by an IRS national or group ruling, your organization name must read exactly as it does on your 501(c)(3) IRS determination letter, which you submit with your application.
For example, most 501(c)(3) organizations have their own tax-status determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service. However, some organizations, such as churches, may be covered under a group ruling. Others may be covered by a national organization. All the above entities must send a copy of the letter or documentation that provides their 501(c)(3) status. Public schools, state universities and county health departments are some examples of governmental entities that are automatically exempt organizations, and no documentation of status is needed.
Q: How do I properly fill out the project budget area?
A: The process is simple and straightforward.
Begin by entering the overall project budget.
Decide how much of that budget you would like to be funded and enter that number in the “Amount Requested from Kansas Health Foundation” line.
Provide detail for how the Kansas Health Foundation funds only will be spent.
Add up the total of these detailed funds. This should be the same amount as the amount requested from us.
Q: How do I fill in the area for budget beginning date and budget end date?
A: This should be the period when the funds you have requested from the Foundation would be used.
Q: Does my application need to be signed?
A: Yes. It must be a signed original. We cannot accept copied signatures.
Q: Who is eligible to sign the Recognition Grant application?
A: Typically, your organization’s fiscal agent or executive director must sign. (Someone who can sign checks or accept funds on behalf of your organization.) Check with the head of your organization to be sure you have the correct person sign. Note: If you are applying on behalf of a school organization (PTAs, prom committee, etc.), the school district is the eligible 501(c)(3) organization and, if funded, will receive the funds. Therefore, school organizations must have a school district authorized signatory (superintendent, treasurer, etc.) sign the application.
Q: How and when will I know if I’ve received a grant?
A: You will be notified by mail. On May 15 and November 15 letters will be sent out to all applicants. Shortly thereafter, a list of those applications that received funding will be listed on our website.
Q: Could you please explain why my application did not receive a Recognition Grant?
A: Unfortunately, we do not provide reasons for approval or declination of applications.
Q: If I didn't receive a Recognition Grant during the most recent funding cycle, how can I improve my chances of being funded next time?
A: Our competitive process involves an independent review committee attempting to recommend the best proposals from all of the good proposals received. Therefore, each cycle offers a new opportunity to apply.
