Our Mission
As a private philanthropy based in Wichita, we’re guided by our mission: to improve the health of all Kansans. It sounds straightforward, even simple. But we believe that a mission statement should be results-focused, broad-based and to the point. Our work takes us into the realms of children’s health, leadership, public health and policy. Using strategic grantmaking, we provide funding within these four primary areas with an eye to the future – with a prevention focus, a strong love of children and a passion for Kansas.

Children’s Health
We recognize the critical importance of early-childhood development, especially from birth to age five, and the significant connection between literacy and health. Our goal is to put children first. To create an environment that fosters caring, contributing, thoughtful, tolerant and – above all – healthy adults who, in turn, become stewards of future generations.

Leadership
Leadership and health go hand in hand. For all Kansans to live healthier, happier lives, we must have effective leaders capable of mobilizing community efforts to advocate for positive change in health-focused policies and practices. We work to build the skills and the resources needed for individuals to make change possible in organizations and in communities across Kansas. Since 1998, we’ve provided more than 250 people statewide with leadership training through the Kansas Community Leadership Initiative, Master Facilitators and Fellows programs.

Policy
If we’re to improve the health of all Kansans, we must help shape public policy and promote informed decision-making. That requires communicating with everyone from the highest levels of government to those who elect them. At the Foundation, we work to provide unbiased, factual, timely information for representatives and engaged citizens.

Public Health
A strong public-health system protects, promotes and ultimately improves the health of everyone. We work to strengthen and connect the critical components of this system, to educate Kansans about public health, and to address our state’s leading health issues.
